Septic Systems & Wells: Important Information When Buying a Home

By Anita Savoie

Septic system and well information for homebuyers

When selling a property, it is important to have as much information as possible about the septic system and well to help buyers make an informed decision. 😊

Some useful information to know:

🔹 For the septic system

  • Tank capacity (750 gallons, 1000 gallons, etc.)
  • Tank material (concrete, plastic, cedar, etc.)
  • Presence of a septic field
  • Approximate age of the system
  • Date of the last pumping or cleaning

🔹 For the well

  • Shared, private, or surface well
  • Dug or drilled well
  • Well depth
  • Location of the well on the property

💧 Having your septic system inspected and cleaned periodically is also very important. Depending on usage and family size, the frequency may vary from about once a year to every few years.

🏠 Many homeowners do not know all the details about their system, and that is perfectly normal. A specialized company can often help locate important information.

The more information available, the easier it is for buyers to understand the property and feel confident about their purchase.
